How to cook Chicken Biryani

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into small cubes

  • 2 cups basmati rice, rinsed and drained

  • 1 onion, chopped

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1 tablespoon grated ginger

  • 2 tomatoes, chopped

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt

  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro

  • 1 tablespoon garam masala

  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander

  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin

  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric

  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 2 cups water

Instructions:

1. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

2. Add onion and sauté until softened and lightly browned, about 5 minutes.

3.Add garlic and ginger to the skillet and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

4.Add garam masala, coriander, cumin, turmeric, and cayenne pepper to the skillet and stir to combine with the onion mixture.

5.Add chicken cubes to the skillet and cook for 5-6 minutes until browned on all sides.

6.Add chopped tomatoes to the skillet and cook for another 5-6 minutes until softened.

7.In a large pot, bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Add rice and stir to combine. Cover and reduce heat to low. Cook for 12-15 minutes until rice is tender and water has been absorbed.

8.Add cooked chicken mixture to the pot with the rice and stir to combine.

9.Add Greek yogurt and chopped cilantro to the pot and stir to combine.

10.Season with salt and pepper to taste.

11.Cover the pot with a lid and cook over low heat for another 10-15 minutes until flavors have melted together.

12.Serve hot.
